I’ve been fortunate over the years to have had multiple muses encouraging, urging me to write. Apart from the more noble sources of inspiration, a series of landlords demanding rent were my most memorable early muses. Now, there’s a muse inside my Grande Mocha. The love I have for my daughter is a muse. The love my daughter has for camera equipment is a muse.

After propelling me to complete a degree in philosophy from the University of Chicago followed by a two-year study of filmmaking at Columbia College, the muses lead me to a writing career in advertising. During my 22-year stint at DDB Chicago, I created press-worthy work for Anheuser-Busch, Capital One, Dairy Management Inc., McDonald’s, Midas, OfficeMax, SC Johnson, State Farm, and Wilson Sporting Goods.

I was also lucky to have partnered up on occasion with Thalia, the Muse of Comedy. Together we were able to win a few accolades, namely a Clio, Addy, Hugo, Shark, London International, Effie, Radio Mercury, and multiple Cannes shortlists. She even accompanied me to the Emmys the year we were nominated for an OfficeMax commercial.

I look forward to being part of many more inspired partnerships in the future.
